Ahrefs vs Raven Tools in 2026: Pricing, Features, Verdict

Short version: Ahrefs vs Raven Tools stopped being a fair fight on features somewhere around 2021, and it was never a fight on price. Ahrefs is a crawling-and-index company that spent 2026 shipping AI-answer tracking. Raven is a white-label client-reporting layer that still sells, still bills, and still works — but whose public output went silent five years ago.
Every price, limit and quote below was read off the vendors' own pages on August 5, 2026. Where a review platform blocked the request, I say so instead of printing a rating I could not see. That matters here, because most of the "2026" comparisons ranking for this query are recycling numbers nobody re-checked.
What Is Raven Tools, and Is It Still Running in 2026?
Yes — with an asterisk you should read before you enter a card. raventools.com loads, the pricing page is live, plans are purchasable, and every account still opens with a 7-day free trial. The footer reads "© 2007-2026 TapClicks, Inc."
Raven was founded in Nashville in 2007 by two advertising professionals who wanted a cheap, decent SEO platform. TapClicks bought it on April 27, 2017, as covered by PR Newswire and MarTech, and kept the brand alive for smaller agencies alongside AdStage, iSpionage and Megalytic.

The product itself is a reporting suite with SEO tools bolted on, not the other way round. Raven's own pages state the Site Auditor "evaluates 17 different metrics," backlink data is pulled from Majestic ("up to 50,000 backlinks for any URL"), competitor research blends Raven, Majestic and Moz data, and reports are assembled from 30+ drag-and-drop modules. The homepage's central pitch is time saved: "Customers tell us they routinely save 5 to 10 hours every month with Raven reports."
Now the asterisk. The newest article on the front page of the Raven blog is dated January 21, 2021 — "Advanced SEO Techniques: A Mega Guide to Ranking in 2021." Below it, everything is 2019 and 2020. For comparison, the newest post on Ahrefs' blog when I checked was July 31, 2026.

I also read Raven's homepage, features page, SEO tools page and about page looking for a single reference to AI search, ChatGPT, AI Overviews, LLMs or generative engines. There are none. Not a roadmap note, not a beta banner, not a blog post.
So the fair description is this: Raven is not dead and it is not a scam. It is in maintenance mode. Buy it as an inexpensive, working reporting utility — not as a platform that will grow with the way people search in 2026.
What Does Raven Tools Cost, and What Do Its Users Say?
Raven Tools pricing is refreshingly plain by 2026 standards. Five tiers, no credit system, no per-seat surcharge — users are simply included in the plan. Figures below are from raventools.com/pricing on August 5, 2026.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual (per month) | Domains | Users | Position checks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small Biz | $49 | $39 ($468/yr) | 2 | 2 | 1,500 |
| Start | $109 | $79 ($948/yr) | 20 | 4 | 15,000 |
| Grow | $199 | $139 ($1,668/yr) | 80 | 8 | 20,000 |
| Thrive | $299 | $249 ($2,988/yr) | 160 | 20 | 25,000 |
| Lead | $479 | $399 ($4,788/yr) | 320 | 40 | 30,000 |

On reviews, be careful what you believe. Both G2 and Trustpilot returned HTTP 403 to our automated request on August 5, 2026, so I am not quoting a score from either. Anyone who prints one without saying how they got it is guessing.
What I could read: Capterra lists Raven Tools at 4.4 out of 5 from 121 reviews, and Software Advice shows the same 4.4 from 121. The quoted praise is consistent and specific:
- "The ability to set up reports and white label them was our company's number one draw" — Pamela R., July 2019, Software Advice
- "It connects most of my other tools well, such as google analytics and search console" — Alex W., July 2019, Software Advice
The criticism is just as consistent, and it lands on the SEO half rather than the reporting half:
- "The ranking feature of it is not as good as other ranking tools I use" — Alex W., July 2019, Software Advice
- "Rank tracking wasn't great and felt a little clunky compared to other rank tracking options" — Calin H., November 2018, Software Advice
- One December 9, 2022 Capterra reviewer rated it useful "for reporting/scheduling of data" while an August 16, 2022 reviewer noted cheaper tools now match its SEO functions
Notice the dates. The reviews both platforms surface are mostly 2018 and 2019, which tells you roughly when this product's community peaked.
What Does Ahrefs Actually Do, and Which Features Matter in 2026?
Ahrefs runs its own web crawler and its own link index, which is the thing you are really renting. Site Explorer reverse-engineers any domain's backlinks, organic keywords and traffic estimates. Keywords Explorer sizes demand. Site Audit crawls your site for technical and on-page problems — Ahrefs states 170+ issue types.
Two things about Ahrefs changed recently enough that older comparisons get them wrong.
The free tier got renamed and widened. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools is now branded "Ahrefs Free," a move made "to reflect modern teams and give broader free access to Ahrefs' tools." On a verified site you get Site Audit at 5,000 crawl credits per month per project, Site Explorer with 1,000 backlinks and keywords visible at once, and unlimited verified websites. You cannot analyze competitors' domains on it — that is the paywall.
Brand Radar is the AI-answer product. It tracks brand mentions across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, benchmarks you against competitors, and surfaces which pages get cited. Ahrefs says it draws on a database of 271M+ organic prompts and lets you add custom prompts on top.

That is the real dividing line in any Ahrefs vs Raven decision in 2026: one vendor has shipped an answer to "what do the chatbots say about my client," and the other has not mentioned the question exists.
What Does Ahrefs Cost, and Where Do the Add-Ons Bite?
Ahrefs' pricing page is no longer a simple ladder. There is a plan price, then seats, then metered credits, then separately-priced products stacked on top. Read as of August 5, 2026:
- Starter — $29/mo
- Lite — $129/mo
- Standard — $249/mo
- Advanced — $449/mo
- Enterprise — $1,499/mo, annual commitment
Annual billing is advertised at up to 17% off. Extra seats are billed per user per month on top: $40 on Lite, $60 on Standard, $80 on Advanced. Brand Radar starts at $199/mo, with custom prompt packs at $50/mo for 2,500 extra checks, $100/mo for 7,000 and $250/mo for 25,000. Content Kit starts at $99/mo and Report Builder is $99/mo.

Do the arithmetic for a three-person agency that wants AI tracking and client-ready reports: Standard at $249, two extra seats at $60 each, Report Builder at $99, Brand Radar at $199 — roughly $667 a month before any prompt overage. That is about 39% more than Raven's most expensive plan. If the total is what pushed you here, cheaper full suites are covered in our Ahrefs alternative breakdown.

Read the last two rows together with the "AI answer tracking" row. They are the same fact, expressed three ways.
Which Should You Choose, and Where Does AI Visibility Fit?
Pick Raven if your bottleneck is proving work to clients, your margins are thin, and you need branded PDFs pulling Google Ads, Analytics, Search Console and social into one document without paying enterprise money. At $39-$79 a month it is still one of the cheapest white label SEO reporting setups money buys. Just do not expect its keyword or audit data to win an argument with a technical SEO.
Pick Ahrefs if your bottleneck is finding the work in the first place — link gaps, keyword opportunity, competitor teardowns, crawl issues — or if you need AI-answer tracking inside the same login. Start on Ahrefs Free to audit your own properties for nothing, and only pay when you need to point Site Explorer at somebody else's domain.
Plenty of agencies run both, which is the least glamorous and most common answer to Ahrefs vs Raven: Ahrefs to find the opportunity, Raven to bill for the outcome. Our roundup of white label SEO software covers the reporting side if Raven's staleness bothers you.
There is now a third line item neither tool was built for. When a buyer asks ChatGPT or Perplexity "what's the best CRM for a 12-person sales team," the assistant returns two or three names and no blue links. If your client is not one of them, no ranking report explains the missing pipeline. Brand Radar covers the measurement half at $199/mo on top of a plan. Raven covers none of it.

This is where Kairosy fits, and it is worth being precise about what it is not: it is not a rank tracker, not a backlink index, and not a replacement for either tool above. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity the purchase questions your buyers ask, classifies each answer's sentiment, records which competitors get named instead of you, captures the sources each engine cited, and returns a fix plan. One full report a month is free. Paid plans run $29, $99 and $399 a month, adding weekly rescans per brand and market, daily prompt tracking on Pro and above, and market-specific scans across 25 countries.
An example of what that surfaces: Kairosy's scan of ActiveCampaign on August 1, 2026 scored it 64/100. The brand appeared in 96% of answers — visibility was never the problem — but favorability sat at 56% and the recommend rate at 54%, because on head-to-head comparison questions the engines kept steering buyers to HubSpot and MailerLite. Perplexity scored it 52 while ChatGPT and Claude both scored 73. No rank tracker in either product would have shown that.

Before adding another subscription, two free checks are worth ten minutes. Run our index checker to confirm the pages you want cited are indexed, and the redirect checker to catch old URLs bleeding authority through chains. Assistants cite what they can fetch cleanly. If you are weighing keyword-research suites specifically, our Long Tail Pro vs Ahrefs comparison covers that end of the market.
Ahrefs vs Raven Tools FAQs
Is Raven Tools still active in 2026?
Yes. The site is live, the five plans are purchasable, and the 7-day trial still works, under TapClicks ownership since April 2017. But the newest article on its blog front page is dated January 21, 2021, and no Raven page mentions AI search. Treat it as a stable utility rather than a product on a roadmap.
Which is cheaper, Ahrefs vs Raven Tools?
Raven, at almost every level of use. Raven runs $39-$399 a month on annual billing, or $49-$479 monthly, with users included. Ahrefs runs $29-$1,499 a month before per-seat fees of $40-$80 and add-ons like Report Builder at $99/mo. Ahrefs' free tier is far more generous than Raven's 7-day trial, though.
Does Raven Tools track ChatGPT or AI Overview mentions?
No. As of August 5, 2026 there is no mention of AI search, ChatGPT, LLMs or generative engines anywhere on Raven's homepage, features, SEO tools or about pages. For that you need Ahrefs' Brand Radar or a dedicated AI visibility scanner.
Can Ahrefs replace Raven Tools for client reporting?
Partly. Ahrefs sells Report Builder at $99/mo, but Raven's pitch is multi-channel — pulling paid, social and analytics data into one white-labeled document, not just SEO. If your reports must cover Google Ads and Facebook alongside rankings, Ahrefs alone will leave gaps.
What is the best free way to start comparing them?
Verify your domain in Ahrefs Free for site audit and backlink data on your own properties, take Raven's 7-day trial and build one real client report inside it, and run a free Kairosy scan to see what the four major assistants currently say about the brand. That gives you all three angles for nothing.
Is Raven Tools' backlink data its own?
No. Raven licenses backlink data from Majestic and surfaces up to 50,000 backlinks per URL, and blends Moz data into competitor research. Ahrefs crawls and indexes the web itself, which is the main reason its pricing is several times higher.
